...RECORD HIGH REACHED TODAY IN ANCHORAGE...
AS OF 430 PM AKDT TUESDAY JULY 7TH...THE HIGH TEMPERATURE AT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN ANCHORAGE WAS 80 DEGREES. THIS BREAKS THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 79 DEGREES SET IN 2005 AND ALSO MARKS THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2005 AN 80 DEGREE TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN RECORDED IN ANCHORAGE.
OFFICIAL RECORDS GAVE BEEN KEPT IN ANCHORAGE SINCE 1917.
Quote from the meteorological technician on shift at the Valdez, AK Weather Service Office (WSO): "We need to knock this hot stuff off... its Alaska, not Florida."
Keep in mind that it only broke 70 twice in Anchorage last summer – and only for a few hours on both of the days that it happened. Our Alaska move has taught us that "hot," "warm," and "cold" really are relative terms and how people perceive them changes depending on where they live. People here say that 70 feels like 90 in the lower 48… so 80 REALLY feels hot to those of us that easily survived two weeks of sub-zero temperatures in recent past. J

"Elsa the Retriever" - Shot at the beach in Point Woronzof Park, here in Anchorage. Elsa is not much of a swimmer, but she loves to play in the water.
"Elsa at the Beach" - Also shot at Point Woronzof Park. Elsa killed the mean stick for us.
"Tug O' War" - Elsa and Luke, playing with a rope bone that was later destroyed.
"Calving Glacier" - Shot in June 2009 while on a Prince WIlliam Sound Glacier Cruise. We went on the cruise with Luke's family, during their visit. Michelle Almon is in the foreground, wearing the red jacket.
"Iditaride" - Shot at 2004 Iditarod winner Mitch Seavey's kennel during the Almon's 2009 visit.
"Christy2AK" - Shot in March 2009, when Christy was in Alaska for a visit. This is Christy ice-skating at Cheney Lake Park, near our house.
